Aside from the obvious – the breathtaking landscapes, the connection, and the quality time – it’s just an unforgettable experience to choose a Santorini destination elopement in Greece, Europe and everywhere in the globe. In a world where distractions are so accessible, it’s about feeling fully and wholly loved and accepted without any of the show. An intimate wedding is simple, but so powerful. That’s why I can tell you as a Santorini destination elopement photographer with confidence (over and over again) to ditch the big wedding already! Elopements allow authenticity in that you are only doing what you actually want and what means something to you.

WHEN YOU CHOOSE AN INTIMATE WEDDING OVER A HUGE EVENT, YOU’RE ABLE TO EMBRACE A PROFOUNDLY MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE IN A PLACE YOU LOVE.
Deciding for a destination elopement is a highly personal choice that depends on various factors unique to each couple. Here are some reasons why some couples might consider eloping:
You’ll have more freedom.
Because you’re not spending on a reception, your ceremony can take place at a truly bucket list destination. Elopements still definitely require some planning, but instead of struggling with a seating chart, you get to sift through epic locations, plan amazing adventures, and make sure your day is entirely about you! That means you can bend and shape traditions entirely as you see fit without worrying what anyone else will think of them.
No pressure to perform in front of guests.
As a Santorini destination elopement photographer I’ve seen a hundreds of entrances in front of guests and without. With an elopement, the only eyes on you will be those of your beloved and this is what truly matters in the end. Without external pressure or distractions, you’ll be free to act in and experience it as your true self.
You can be adventurous.
If you’re contemplating eloping, chances are you’re envisioning a destination more thrilling than your local country club. What activities do you both adore? Where do you envision launching your married life? Blend your passions with your elopement to transform your wedding into an extended honeymoon! Instead of a conventional venue, picture getting married amidst breathtaking landscapes such as Milos, Meteora or Santorini!
It is less expensive than weddings.
Let’s face it. Having a wedding is expensive! From welcoming the guests to the reception part, the price average is high! No matter your reasons to elope, you’re still going to be saving money by cutting out expenses that don’t really add anything to your experience.

Elopement FAQ
How many guests can attend an elopement?
There’s no hard and fast rule here. While the more traditional understanding of an elopement is that it just includes the couple and an officiant, these days, couples are also involving their children, parents, and/or small numbers of close friends and family in their elopements.
Do I need an officiant?
It depends on where you get married or if for example, you already have a legal marriage you don’t need to be official and get to live an amazing experience with no formalities.
Can we have a symbolic ceremony in Greece if we don’t want a legal marriage?
Yes, many couples opt for symbolic ceremonies in Greece, especially if they prefer to handle the legalities in their home country. Symbolic ceremonies can be personalized and conducted in beautiful locations without the legal requirements.
What about witnesses?
This also varies from place to place. Santorini, for example, requires two witnesses to sign a marriage certificate, while other destinations requires no additional witnesses. This is also something you’ll want to research ahead of time to ensure your elopement is legally recognized. Don’t worry if you won’t have guests in attendance—your photographer and other vendors can serve as witnesses. I’ve done it so many times and it’s always an honour!
Can we wear wedding outfits?
Absolutely! Wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable, and makes the moment feel special. Whether that’s an ivory ball gown or a simple linen dress is entirely up to you.
How do we legally elope in Greece?
Foreigners can legally marry in Greece, but the process can be bureaucratic. You’ll need to submit paperwork to the local municipality where you plan to marry. It’s advisable to hire a local wedding planner who can assist with the legal requirements.
